The Chromecast Ultra's replacement is the "Chromecast with Google TV," a new product that converts the Chromecast from "dumb media receiver" to something that runs an Android TV-based operating system (Google TV is just the next version of Android TV) with a user interface and the ability to install apps. The bundle is still for sale, but as a standalone product, the Chromecast Ultra was discontinued in September 2020. Stadia launched with one option for TV playback: the Chromecast Ultra, which was bundled with the controller in various $100-$129 starter packages. You can use all sorts of existing Xbox and Playstation controllers on those platforms, but Google has yet to reach this point on Android TV, which represents Stadia's biggest potential TV platform. For Stadia, that has been the case if you're using Chrome on a desktop computer or Android on a phone. One of the big selling points of cloud gaming services like Stadia is that because your game is streamed over the Internet, the hardware requirements for graphically intensive games no longer apply. Google adds that for Android TV devices not on this list, users will be able to "opt into experimental support to play Stadia." The company warns, "While this feature is still in development and not every Android TV OS device will work perfectly, you can now try out Stadia and play your favorite games on more screens than ever before." Philips 8215, 8505, and OLED 935/805 Series Android TVs.Walmart Onn FHD Streaming Stick and UHD Streaming Device.Hisense Android Smart TVs (U7G, U8G, U9G).First up is official support for the following devices: Google has announced that starting this month, Stadia will have support for Android TV. So we're a bit mystified that, just now, 18 months after launch, Google's video game platform will support Google's television platform. It only makes sense: If you want to play a AAA video game, you often want to do it on the biggest, best screen in the house. Partners include news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX, and many other channels across the world, and all of them will be watchable without having to download an app.Televisions and video games have gone together since the beginning. It will integrate 800 free TV channels across multiple providers directly into the Live Tab. Still, this is probably one of the cheapest 4K streaming boxes on the market, and if you care about the built-in Chromecast functionality or the large ecosystem of Android apps available on Google TV, then this should be pretty good value.Įarlier this week, Google also announced a new live TV experience that will be available soon on all Google TV devices in the US. While Dolby Audio is supported, there’s no mention of HDR or Dolby Vision support on the store listing. For less than $20, you do get an HDMI cable in the box and 2 AAA batteries for the remote, which has a built-in mic for Google Assistant. The new version comes with a slightly faster Amlogic chip that supports AV1 decoding, 2GB of RAM, and just 8GB of storage. Walmart launched its first Onn streaming boxes running Android TV back in 2021, but the company stopped selling them late last year. In comparison, Google’s Chromecast with Google TV dongle is priced at $49.99. The new device was spotted by AndroidTV_Rumor on Twitter (via 9to5Google), and it’s priced at just $19.88. Walmart has quietly launched a new version of its Onn streaming box that runs Google TV and supports 4K streaming.

If Usher was pushed and pulled in the world of entertainment, made to spur gossip and sell magazines and keep the churn of celebrity moving, then he would reclaim the narrative about himself, or at least shape it into one with a created and defined beginning, middle and end. Was the entirety of the record an admission of guilt, or was it a moment to tell a greater story - on the pressures of modern love, on the ease of infidelity, on the new essence of celebrity culture? Here, Usher uses the album as a means of blurring the line between fantasy and reality. Surprisingly, it was still a relatively uncommon means of structure at the time, at least in the world of R&B. If his debut album was about the thrill of new romance and My Way focused on evolving sensuality, then 8701 was about the excitement of life as a young man and celebrity.īut Confessions, released in the spring of 2004, is a different type of record, one that uses storytelling as a narrative device. Released after a four-year break that saw the musician tour around the world, experiment with acting and become a bona fide celebrity, the album also gave us quick glimpses of a new Usher. His maturity grew even further on 8701, his third album. On his sophomore breakthrough album, My Way, released when he was 18, the singer began to mature, with songs progressing from the handholding of his debut’s “Think of You” to the new bedroom antics of “Nice & Slow.” By the end of this 17-track triumph, even the most buttoned-up listener can’t help but understand the true message of the record: A mistake is only as grave as we make it.īursting onto the music scene at only 16 years old with his self-titled debut album, Usher was primed to win the swooning hearts of teen girls everywhere. With a lesser artist, this may be impossible for the listener, but Usher’s charms are unfailing. Here, Usher asks us to sympathize with the philanderer, the heartbreaker. Bridging musical genres and stylistic eras (through both subject matter and production style), Confessions is an album set apart, and a masterpiece of tone and sound. This translates to around two stops of high ISO improvement on the 6D versus the 7D, which can be critical for anyone looking to capture low-light images – such as event photographers, astrophotographers, and more. You’ll start to notice some noise around ISO 3200, with images becoming unusable by ISO 12800 or so (though you might be able to get away with such high ISOs if you’re a street photographer or you work in black and white).Ĭompare this to the Canon EOS 7D, which begins to show noise in the ISO 400-800 range, before becoming unusable at around ISO 3200. The full frame 6D packs a 20 MP full-frame sensor, and while its image quality is a step down from Canon’s leading full-frame bodies, it’s far from bad. So while you’ll get decent resolution, even by today’s standards, you’re just not going to see the same high-ISO performance you can expect from a full-frame camera like the 6D.Īnd real-life tests bear that out. That said, when pitting these two cameras against one another, you’re going to notice some significant performance differences.įirst, the Canon EOS 7D is an APS-C camera with an 18 MP sensor. For that, you’ll want to look at more recent options, such as the Canon 6D Mark II, the Canon 7D Mark II, and more. So neither camera will give you class-leading image quality. The Canon 7D came out way back in 2009, while the 6D isn’t much newer it debuted in 2012. The Canon EOS 7D, meanwhile, is built like a tank, meant for photographers who will be subjecting it to rain, sea spray, mist, and more.Īt the time of release, both the Canon EOS 6D and 7D offered competitive image quality for their respective target audience.īut these days, the 6D and 7D are older cameras. It’s good for travelers who want the full-frame sensor but aren’t looking for top-of-the-line build quality. In other words, the Canon EOS 6D is an enthusiast camera. Note that this durability also translates to mechanical shutter life while the 6D is rated at a decent 100,000 actuations, Canon promises 150,000 actuations on the 7D. My 7D has handled a lot and has come through without a hitch or a scratch.īut while my 6D is still working well, I always hesitate before subjecting it to adverse weather. I’ve used both these cameras extensively, in both good and bad weather. While it doesn’t weigh significantly more than the 6D (860g/30 oz), and it isn’t significantly bigger (148 x 111 x 74mm), its body is made of magnesium alloy, offering a level of durability that the 6D can’t match. The Canon 7D, on the other hand, feels like a beast. It clocks in at around 770 g (27 oz), with a 148 x 111 x 74mm body.Īnd while the 6D’s body feels well-built, and does come with weather sealing, it’s pretty plasticky overall. The Canon 6D and the Canon 7D are two very different animals, and this becomes clear the moment you hold them both in your hands.ĭespite its larger sensor, the Canon 6D is a relatively compact, lightweight camera. Native ISO 40000, Expanded to ISO 102400.Users will have access to many connectivity options as well, such as Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth, for connecting to a smart device, and built-in GPS for geotagging your photos. Additionally, the body design has received an upgrade with improved ergonomics and durability, including dust and water resistance. Users will also have the ability to create 4K time-lapse movies as well as HDR video with dedicated settings and modes. This setup works well with the 3" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD, which permits use at various angles and with intuitive controls.įor hybrid stills/video shooters, you will enjoy the enhanced video quality as well as the ability to plug in an external mic via a 3.5mm input. Along with a revamped AF system, the sensor features Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology to provide a boost to focusing in live view and video shooting, which itself has been bumped up to Full HD at 60p. This marks a significant improvement over its predecessor and will result in faster acquisition of your subject. This setup offers an improved native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can then be expanded to ISO 50-102400, as well as speedy shooting rates of up to 6.5 fps.Įnsuring your images are tack sharp is a 45-point all-cross type AF system, which is able to track subjects with accuracy. The main update comes in the form of a 26.2MP CMOS sensor and the use of the DIGIC 7 Image Processor to deliver sharper, more vivid imagery in a variety of shooting situations. Making high-performance full-frame imaging more accessible, the 6D Mark II makes numerous advancements over its predecessor to improve upon every aspect of image capture and creation. The Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera is an affordable step into the world of full-frame photography. He spent much of the remainder of his life writing about political issues, including the relative authority and rights of the spiritual and temporal powers. William of Ockham's philosophy was never officially condemned as heretical. "On June 6, 1328, William was officially excommunicated for leaving Avignon without permission," and William argued that John XXII was a heretic for attacking the doctrine of Apostolic poverty and the Rule of Saint Francis, which had been endorsed by previous popes. In return for protection and patronage William wrote treatises that argued for Emperor Louis to have supreme control over church and state in the Holy Roman Empire. After studying the works of John XXII and previous papal statements, William agreed with the Minister General. This brought them into conflict with Pope John XXII.īecause of the pope's attack on the Rule of Saint Francis, William of Ockham, Michael of Cesena and other leading Franciscans fled Avignon on, and eventually took refuge in the court of the Holy Roman Emperor Louis IV of Bavaria, who was also engaged in dispute with the papacy, and became William's patron. The Franciscans believed that Jesus and his apostles owned no property either individually or in common, and the Rule of Saint Francis commanded members of the order to follow this practice. Michael of Cesena had asked William to review arguments surrounding Apostolic poverty. A theological commission had been asked to review his Commentary on the Sentences, and it was during this that William of Ockham found himself involved in a different debate. The Franciscan Minister General, Michael of Cesena, had been summoned to Avignon, to answer charges of heresy. It is generally believed that these charges were levied by Oxford chancellor John Lutterell. Īn alternative understanding, recently proposed by George Knysh, suggests that he was initially appointed in Avignon as a professor of philosophy in the Franciscan school, and that his disciplinary difficulties did not begin until 1327. In 1324, his commentary was condemned as unorthodox by a synod of bishops, and he was ordered to Avignon, France, to defend himself before a papal court. However, William's commentary was not well received by his colleagues, or by the Church authorities. William of Ockham was among these scholarly commentators. ĭuring the Middle Ages, theologian Peter Lombard's Sentences (1150) had become a standard work of theology, and many ambitious theological scholars wrote commentaries on it. Because of this he acquired the honorific title Venerabilis Inceptor, or "Venerable Beginner" (an inceptor was a student formally admitted to the ranks of teachers by the university authorities). It is believed that he then studied theology at the University of Oxford from 1309 to 1321, but while he completed all the requirements for a master's degree in theology, he was never made a regent master. He received his elementary education in the London House of the Greyfriars. William of Ockham was born in Ockham, Surrey, in 1287. William is remembered in the Church of England with a commemoration on the 10th of April. He is commonly known for Occam's razor, the methodological principle that bears his name, and also produced significant works on logic, physics and theology. He is considered to be one of the major figures of medieval thought and was at the centre of the major intellectual and political controversies of the 14th century. 1287 – 10 April 1347) was an English Franciscan friar, scholastic philosopher, apologist, and Catholic theologian, who is believed to have been born in Ockham, a small village in Surrey. Hopefully, you’re beginning to feel more confident and comfortable with your Instant Pot. Easy Instant Pot Recipes to Simplify Life You can also follow the instructions above for programming a delay start timer. After a short pause, you’ll hear the Instant Pot beep to let you know it’s starting to heat up. You can adjust the cook time by pressing the “+” or “-” until it reads the cook time you need. If a recipe says to cook at high pressure, this is the button for you. Instead, in order to program the cook time, the Manual/Pressure Cook button is what I use 99% of the time. The downside of these preset buttons is that the Instant Pot isn’t smart enough to know how much food is in your pot, what temperature it is, or whether or not it’s cooked through. If you adjust it to “Less,” it will bump the cook time down to 20 minutes. If you adjust it to “More,” it will bump the cook time up to 40 minutes. These presets are adjustable by pressing “+” or “=”, which adjusts the time to “More” or “Less” within a specified range.įor instance, the Soup/Broth button defaults to a 30 minute cook time at high pressure. It’s important to understand that the buttons are designed to be presets, or suggestions, each programmed with a default cook time and pressure setting. One thing that often overwhelms people who are new to the Instant Pot is ALL THE BUTTONS. Powered by Convert Plus How to Program a Cook Time on the Instant Pot Some models of the Instant Pot have a “Timer” button, as you can see in the image below. How Does the Timer or Delay Start Button Work? This is also when you will perform either a natural release or quick release of pressure. You may wish to press Cancel to turn off the Keep Warm function. So if the timer reads 00:10, you’ll know it has been 10 minutes since the cook time completed. If you have the Keep Warm function enabled on your Instant Pot, once the timer counts down and the cooking time is complete, the unit will switch to a lower-heat setting while the pressure releases.ĭuring this period, you will see the timer start counting up from 0. It’s also important to remember that the timer won’t start counting down right away, because it takes time to build pressure in the Instant Pot. So it’s important for you to know that the timer counts down, not up, on an Instant Pot. Once the pot has achieved pressure, meaning the inside is pressurized, the cook time will begin.Īt this point, the Instant Pot’s display will begin counting down from the amount of time you programmed cooking for.įor instance, if you programmed a cook time of 5 minutes, once the Instant Pot achieves pressure, the timer will begin counting down from 5 minutes. Although the food may begin to cook while the pot heats up, this is not part of the “cook time.” In the first phase of the process, the ingredients are in the Instant Pot and the lid is on, with the vent closed.ĭuring this period, the pot is starting to heat up and pressure is building within the pot. There are three main phases that occur during pressure cooking, and it’s important to understand what’s happening during each in order to understand how the timer works.
We'll be reporting back on Rise of the Tomb Raider with a more detailed look at the Gamescom demo soon, but the arrival of the full game patch on November 7th is what we're really looking forward to. However, it's clear that some users really want native ultra HD resolution and it's great that multiple options are there to play the game using the power of the Scorpio Engine however you see fit. We'll be taking a close look at this further on down the road, but the enriched 4K mode (using some kind of temporal upscale) is smoother in these areas and what you lose in absolute precision detail, you gain with a better-looking game overall with a firmer grasp of its 30fps target frame-rate. As you may note while watching the video, while native ultra HD pushes the pixel counts to extremes, the trade-off is one or two sections where performance takes a hit: specifically, areas where water dominates the screen, along with the final cutscene. Our first impressions suggest that of the three modes, the latter may prove to be the best balance the Xbox One X version has to offer, pairing a higher quality visual feature set with improved performance compared to the pure 4K preset. Time was limited with the game, but we did manage to play through the ten minute sequence across all three gameplay modes - high frame-rate, native 4K and enriched 4K. The capture as seen here runs at the demo's default setting. We are looking at work-in-progress code of course, but the game also includes an HDR slider, similar to the one found in Forza Horizon 3 and at home, the chances are you'd be calibrating the look of the game to more closely match your specific screen. The contrasts between dark and light occasionally result in ultra-bright blow-out on some highlighted elements. Rise of the Tomb Raider pushes HDR hard, and in the early demo we played, possibly it goes too far. YouTube makes you jump through hoops to see the full HDR video, but everyone still gets a native 4K presentation, regardless of their screen type. Rise of the Tomb Raider, captured with HDR active. The very best possible experience is available to Digital Foundry Patreon supporters, who can download the pristine source file, copy it to USB stick and view directly on their screens, or via a compatible device like Xbox One S or Nvidia Shield Android TV. To view in HDR, users of mid-range and high-end Samsung 4K TVs can track down the video via the YouTube app, while Chromecast Ultra owners can stream the video to their HDR screens and get an equivalent effect. If you're watching on YouTube on a standard range screen, you'll get a downsampled, tonemapped presentation - though in itself, it does show a slightly different look to the lighting. It's an experience we can try to bring home to you today with a full HDR capture of the Gamescom demo. From our perspective, it's another cool reason to revisit this game when Xbox One X launches on November 7 There's even the sense that more detail is resolved in the specular pass, particularly on the moist cave walls. Tomb Raider literally runs the gamut in the Prophet's Tomb Gamescom demo, Lara's progress through a near pitch black cave illuminating by her bright blue glowstick, the dark and forboding Prophet's Tomb itself more accurately lit by the natural light flowing in from the sky above. HDR is all about extreme contrast - on the right screens, blacks can be inky black, whites can be eye-searingly bright. It's a feature worth bragging out - what we've seen of Tomb Raider's HDR support on Xbox One X is simply beautiful, significantly transforming the look of the game. Nixxes has even blogged about it, making its no-show for users something of a mystery. In theory, that should not be too difficult: we've already seen HDR running beautifully on Nvidia PC hardware as far back as March 2016 at the GTX 1080 launch. Right now, the high dynamic range functionality has only been confirmed for Xbox One X, but we're hopefully that developer Nixxes will also roll out the upgrade for PC and PS4 Pro users. We've already posted our initial thoughts on the Gamescom demo (and we have more coverage planned) but for now, we thought we'd kick off with a look at the game's breathtaking HDR support. While the range of games available to check out was essentially a subset of the impressive Gamescom line-up, we did have the opportunity to get direct feed capture of a range of titles that we'll be covering over the next week, starting with Rise of the Tomb Raider. A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft began its latest global media tour, primarily to promote Xbox One X. If you want something, you have to save for it.
